THE INTERNATIONAL FUR TRADE WELCOMES THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT`S WHITE PAPER ON FUR ANIMAL AND FARMING MANAGEMENT
As the Chinese economy continues to grow at unprecedented rates and demand for fur in China steadily climbs, the Chinese Government has issued a White Paper on the status of the fur sector in China [1].This follows on from the introduction in 2005 of the Regulation on Technical Management of Breeding, Keeping and Housing Fur Animal Species.
The White Paper outlines the Chinese Government’s commitment to conservation and to animal welfare, and provides the first comprehensive overview of the regulations in place covering wild and farmed fur animals.
The Chinese Government has for many decades recognised the importance of fur farming as a means of providing a viable livelihood for China’s vast rural population and raising living standards.The Chinese Government also recognises the importance of scientific research and the need to follow international standards, supported by monitoring and inspection to ensure continued improvements in animal welfare.
Andreas Lenhart, the Chairman of the International Fur Trade Federation (IFTF) comments, “The IFTF warmly welcomes the publication of the White Paper. The Chinese Government openly acknowledges its support for the fur sector and for fur farming. The Paper also confirms what we have long known which is that China is committed to the conservation of its wildlife and to animal welfare, and is actively taking care of both.”

Como a economia chinesa continua crescendo a taxas sem precedentes e a demanda por peles na China cresce firmemente, o Governo Chinês publicou Nota a respeito da situação do setor de peles na China [1]. Isto da seqüência à introdução em 2005 da Regulamentação sobre Gerenciamento Técnico da Reprodução, Preservação e Alojamento de espécies de animais para pele.
O Informativo esboça o compromisso do Governo Chinês com a conservação e bem estar animal e estabelece a primeira descrição compreensiva dos regulamentos apropriados abrangendo animais silvestres e de cativeiro para pele.
O Governo Chinês tem por muitas décadas reconhecido a importância da produção de peles como um meio de prover subsistência para a numerosa população rural chinesa e elevação do padrão de vida. O Governo Chinês também reconhece a importância da pesquisa cientifica e a necessidade de seguir padrões internacionais, amparado por monitoramento e inspeção para assegurar continuidade no melhoramento do bem estar animal.
Andreas Lenhart, o Presidente da Federação Internacional do Comercio de Peles (IFTF - Internacional Fur Trade Federation) comenta, "O IFTF com entusiasmo recebe a publicação do Informativo. O Governo Chinês declara abertamente seu apoio ao setor de peles e a produção de peles. O Informe também confirma o que nós há muito tempo já sabíamos; que a China está comprometida com a preservação de sua vida silvestre e bem estar animal, e está ativamente cuidando de ambos”.
